I have been using "Dynatex Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive, flexible adhesive, bonds rubber weatherstripping to doors, windshields, trunk lids, windows and lights. #49429." It is black, gooey, stretchy, and sticky, solvent based. I am very happy with it's adhesive qualities. It's probably similar to the 3M stuff. Yes both surfaces are coated, but is not a contact cement in the strict sense of the meaning. It does not bond instantly with no wiggle room. The piece can be moved, slid, and adjusted to its final position.
