Well that didn't take long for someone to pick up on the chamfering at the cylinders. As it was explained to me; some heads/ like Lt1 heads have a larger combustion chamber than cylinder. These reliefs allow a smoother transition of intake and exhaust gasses. Most times when the valves are unshrouded and then the heads bolted on the block without the reliefs like have done to mine, the gasses hit that edge and cause turbulence.



Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought some turbulence in the combustion chamber was a good thing. The more turbulence, the better the fuel and air mix, creating a more efficient burn.
