GM factory LT4 springs do NOT have a flat wire damper.

The damper is to reduce spring harmonics. When GM started the LT1/4's one of the big technical advances was in the valve springs. They used a special type of wire that had an ovate crosssection (as oposed to round). The ovate wire springs did not need a damper to keep the spring harmonics under control.
