If the gears are too worn the box is worthless, according to 2 rebuilders I spoke to. They do their best to pick through the useable gears and shim/adjust them properly. That screw and jam nut on top is where you adjust lash. I took the opportunity to swap the box for a variable ratio box from Redhead. Less sensitive in the middle of travel and more steering at the ends of travel for parking and tight maneuvers. I don't know if those are available for the manual boxes. |
