Yep, they will draw down even a new battery fairly fast, I here a C5 will too.

I can only speak for a 92 but the hatch light is not in the timer circuit, it stays on until the hatch is shut.
I made a small tool that depresses the hatch switch and holds it in the off position when I plan on having the hatch open for a while.
