Joe, I should AFAIK, but I've never looked behind the timing cover. I don't know about the misalignment on the intake, but that's a good point I'll look into.

Matt, Checking the intake is a good idea, but I would not invest alot of time on it. The intake does not center the distributor. That is done by the bottom of the distributor, in the block. The hole in the intake is larger that the part of the dist that goes through it. It would have to be off a ton to side load it enough to chew the gear. Check everything, but I would put intake at the bottom of the possibilities.
