3000 RPM at 75? That is high, even for 3.07 gears. That's also NOT the filter. The filter will keep it from jumping about, not keep it from reading high. Reading high is caused by a bad tachometer itself.

Do you have access to a laptop computer? I would love to know what is going on there.

Do you know if the rear end was ever changed?

At 81k miles, ujoints do become suspect. So do wheel bearings.
