Check under the center console cover, or the drivers side rear compartment lid (don't remember which for 90 Verts).

On the inside of the lid, there is a decal, white with lotsa print on it. Those 3 character codes are called RPO codes - Regular Production Order. Some are internal control codes, some refer to options, such as L98, or C68 if you have cruise control.

List what you find and we can figure what you got!

The key? G92. If you have G92, your car came with the uprated rear, from 2.59 to 3.07. But that still doesn't explain away the high RPM reading from the tach.
