The Service Parts Identification label (SPIL or SPID) was located in several locations — most were located as specified below, though there do seem to have been some exceptions. 1984 - early 1986; driver side rear storage compartment late 1986 - 1994; center storage compartment lid 1995 - 1996; passenger side rear storage compartment Printed by computer at the Bowling Green plant, a Service Parts Identification label will tell the owner or potential owner many things, among them the complete option load-out for the particular Corvette to which it is glued. The SPIL also includes the VIN number, the paint type, the paint code (or codes, if it is a Corvette with two-tone paint), and the trim code. I can tell you that a photo of the Service Parts Identification label was a big influence on my purchase of my particular 1985. With (it must be confessed) significantly better printing quality, the Service Parts Identification label continued on the C5s and into the C6s (it is now a bit smaller and consistently resides on the glove box door). |
