An electric pump itself may be similar in cost to a mechanical one, but that does not include the wiring, fuses, harness routing, possible increase in alternator capability, etc. Just running another wire is a huge cost to an OEM. Cost isn't always the biggest driver, but it's a helluva lot more important than you think. Otherwise I wouldn't get the crap beat out of me by GM, Ford, and DC purchasing over pennies on components which save people's lives. I've seen performance lose to cost over and over again. |
