Vac leak? Not MY mill... |
Subject: Vac leak? Not MY mill... by Schrade on 2014/10/23 14:35:24 Think your tune is perfect? And the obvious tune problems CAN'T hit you? That's what I thought too... I've been starting mine with a weak battery since Spring. If I don't drive it for 2 weeks, battery is dead (even had a new one on the shelf for 7 weeks now). Daily starting was fine. Saturday, I tried to crank it after an idle week. It struggled, and backfired up the intake (FOREfire?). Fire, AND detonation pressure, in the intake. Big deal - right? Vac hoses get old. You'd think that vacuum should seal small age-cracks - sort of. At worst, collapse them. But NEW vac hoses and caps? What about detonation in the intake? I heard a pop, like a rubber band snapping. Then, I JUST HAPPENED TO SEE OIL SMOKE SEEPING FROM THE SNORKEL, AND FROM A NEWLY CAPPED VACUUM PORT ('90 LT5 was built w/o valve stem seals, and an idle week will show this in start-up exhaust) The detonation popped the end right off the vac port cap. If I hadn't had the hood up, I would NEVER have noticed that... Been thinkin' on that for a week. New build? Full of new parts, and hoses? And you missed the distributor by 180'? Oops! "I got the distributor right, WTH is wrong NOW??? " Check those hoses; old, OR new... |
