Sorry, just coming into this thread. I know first hand how much of a PITA the clutches are in these. I myself have a 1994 LT1, and I believe blue label ZF6. I was having HUGE clutch chatter and similar issues as you with the losing acceleration in 5th. Long story short, I figured I could do a pressure plate and disk and try to use my OEM dual mass. Turns out previous owner put in a centerforce with the OEM nowhere to be found. I went through McLeod and emptied my bank account and shook my piggy bank while I was at it. I got a sprung hub clutch disk, new flywheel and pressure plate. Once I put it in tho, night and day of difference and extremely smooth as long as I don't lug the car, then I get a slight vibration. But the clutch grabs and does not let go. Just food for thought if all else fails.
