On my 89 I got tired of driving in So. Cal traffic watching my gauge. I replaced the stupid little beannie propeller in front of the condenser with a 14" black max pusher fan and wired it to a switch. That over rides the fans when I am in traffic and I leave them on until I am clear and moving. Bring the temp down to 190 while sitting.
