I don't think just anyone can rebuild a shock. Modern shocks are pressurized, and that requires specialized equipment.

Rebuild cost is not a huge savings at this price point. If you had Ohlin or Penske racing shocks, the type of shock that cost $2k each, then rebuild is cost effective.

However, new Bilstein's are $85, shipped from Tire Rack. Beat that!

Koni is a little better, but not a lot. I kept my Koni's for rebuild, but the savings isn't huge.
