Couple of thoughts here on the heating issue. As has been noted, the engine might be airlocked. Insure that things like the heater is turned on to allow any air in there also to be eliminated when burping the system. The second is to insure you got the correct water pump. I've read where others have gotten the wrong one, wrong rotation and had overheating issues.

If everything is right, one thing I've done before with other cars is find a parking ramp with the steepest ramps you can find. Again with the heater on, drive up it in low gear and keep the rpm's up. Sometimes you can get any air in the engine and heater to push through to the radiator.
