That's the computer... and the throttle bodies...

The first thing you should do is upgrade the ECU from the 1984 part to the 1987 Pickup truck part. There is some wiring changes, but the speed of the computer and its ability to tune faster is valuable.

Check fuel flow... the flow is rated for that kind of RPM where the engine dies naturally... you might need a bit more pump, but not a lot more.

The other trick is to use the 454 big block throttle bodies. They flow much better.
