Parking Brake Lamp Switch

Subject: Parking Brake Lamp Switch
by bronze84 on 2008/3/29 22:59:28

I just finished cleaning and greasing my parking brake handle assembly on my '84. It was locked up from years of no use. The switch for the dash lamp is mounted to the rear of the handle bracket. It is a simple spring-type switch. When I apply light pressure to the switch, the lamp lights. Release it, it goes off. I can't figure out what is supposed to act on the switch to depress it and close the circuit. It doesn't look like the handle would do it, since the handle lies horizontal after applying the brake. What is supposed to press the switch and hold it closed when the parking brake is on? Anyone have a diagram? I have a photo which I could email but couldn't get it to upload here. Thanks.
