Great info Pete!

But I have a question. How does it work when there is no ECM to tell it when to lock up, as in mine? It has constant voltage until the brake switch opens the circuit (I think).

Lots of ways to do it in the aftermarket. Something must control it. The brake pedal can unlock it, but something has to trigger the ground, assuming the positive side of the solenoid is wired hot (as they usually are).
Simplest was is 4th only lock up.
A 12 volt ignition lead is run to terminal A (lock up solenoid).
Then, a normally open pressure swith is installed into the 4th gear pressure port, and run to the ground side of the solenoid.
