Subject: Re: Valve Cover Gaskets by Notorious on 2009/1/7 19:32:08 Just because your gaskets "look" good doesn't mean they haven't lost some of their original ability to maintain a given pressure. I don't know exactly what the hardware looks like for the early LT1 cover but for the later covers the bolts "seat" at a certain point and will not put any additional pressure on the gasket once you've reached that point. For this reason the bolt heads for these covers uses a grommet seal which besides sealing also function to maintain a certain pressure on the main gasket. If your covers use these seals, be sure and replace them too, even if they don't show any signs of leaking or seepage. |
