Re: 86 vette switching an auto trans to a manual transmission

Well, I just got back from my shop. It looks like I am going to rebuild the overdrive unit. The tranny fluid looked like motor oil. I found a few small metal particles stuck to the magnet in the pan. How can these people not service a transmission? Just buy it and drive it? Dam. I kinda figured I would have to rebuild it anyway. All the stories I read about the overdrive unit. The water residue you see in the pan was from me washing down the transmission last week.
Here are some pics.

I just spoke to SK Speed and Brian told me that the seal could be bad and gear oil leaked into the trans pan. I will check that seal. The fluid is brown and thick. It does not seem to have that bad burnt smell that ATF transmission fluid has when it gets burnt.
