That's about where I am, but revs alone aren't the culprit. You can make a stock optispark work in harsher conditions if you take the necessary steps to improve it. Most notably, remove the screws that hold the rotor on and put some hi-temp red loctite on them. Don't overtighten!!! Ideally, you'll also remove the two heatstaked nubs that hold the metal part of the rotor to the plastic body and replace them with nylon screws. Your opti will last forever. The MSD optispark claims 10,000RPM with no problem. Sure, the bearing will handle that rotational velocity, but that's never what fails. I had two MSD rotors fail just like a stock part. They beefed up all the wrong places... My most recent rash of failures were most likely due to an engine vibration though, so you can't fault the opti exclusively. Quote:
