It depends as much on your driving habits and environment as much as the brand. All oils have to pass the ASE certification, even the generic store brands. Synthetics now go for more than they used to, but like everyone else said, not 25K miles. Even factory vehicles are recommending every 10K now. 3,000 mile oil changes are a thing of the past.

I wouldn't necessarily say this guy is lucky, he probably drives like a pansy. Low temps and low revs don't do anythhing to break down the oil, and unless you live on a dirt road it's not getting contaminated very quickly, either.

Of course, all that said, I change the oil in the truck every 3 - 5,000 (she tows 9700 lbs) and the vette about every 100 miles
