The only things you can do with the stock speakers are either replace them or fix them!

Take a mixture of elmers glue and water, about 3:1 water:glue and brush it over the cone. It will make it more rigid and should improve bass response.

Conventional speakers will ruin the sound.

The baffle thingy is connected to that grill in the door jam, helps release air pressure when closing the door. That also looks like it works as a port for the enclosure. Two jobs are better than one, eh?

I doubt it would hurt to line with dynamat or something of that nature. Maybe experiement with polyfill. It might slow down the air and change the bass response... but for as much as I hate the sound of Bose, they did do a lot of work to get to that sound level. I know the earlier C4s had a dampner in the rear enclosures... so perhaps GM ditched it to save .40 per car.
