I like Polk, amongst others, for a nice budget minded speaker. A 2 way speaker means it has a separate tweeter for highs and mid-range speaker for well...midrange. The signals are split up to each with a little electronic circuit board with limiters. A 3 way speaker has a tweeter, mid-range, and woofer (though not too large) that generally produces a more precise and richer sound, but the cost reflects that.
