I had to make a run to Home Depot, and on the way I saw a beautiful '55 Packard, tutone blue, sitting at a stoplight amidst a bunch of other cars. It struck me how distinctive it looked, and made me remember the old days when car styling was more than a variation on a jellybean theme. When I was a kid I could recognize just about anything that drove down the street, and most often by year. Today, with few exceptions, I haven't got a clue. Sure, cars are more efficient today, and safer, too. At least as safe as the text-messaging cell phone jockeys piloting them.
