My friend is considering getting a 98 Grand Cherokee. I think it's the last year of the inline 4.0L.

That's a good thing right?

The 4.0L was available in the Grand Cherokee until 2004.

The 4.0L is a great engine. Very durable and has plenty of power for a 6cyl. Like I said, I've had quite a few regular Cherokees over the years and all of them were well over 200K miles at which point I either sold them or gave them to family members. Gas mileage is not great but not terrible either. The Cherokee's and Grand's are VERY CAPABLE 4WD's with good tires. Other people are always amazed at the off road terrain I've tackled with ours.

I have also pulled my both of my Corvettes on my 18ft dovetail open car trailer from DC to my dads shop GA a couple of times. A little under braked for that kind of towning - but if your careful it will do the job.

Your buddy could do a lot worse for a SUV.
