Bought a new truck

Subject: Bought a new truck
by rklessdriver on 2009/10/6 2:22:15

For the past 4-5 yrs I've been holding out on buying a real truck. I've been towing and daily driving a series of "beltway beater" Jeep Cherokees.... Well the current one is actually pretty nice.

Problem is it's too light, too short wheelbase, and way underbraked for towing. Add in it dosen't get very good gas mileage even unloaded - barley getting 14-16mpg around town and for some reason this current one won't break 20mpg on the hwy to save its life... 19mpg is the best I've ever got with it... I'm ready to buy something that I can tow with and get about the same mileage.

I've been looking local for the past week. Didin't quite know what I wanted but figured a nice GM truck would be good... althou I really like the looks of the 4dr short bed Ford F150's...

Only definates I had were
1) it had to be 4X4
2) It had to be 4 door
3) It had to have V8 power

Among all the Tahoe's and F150's, I happen upon a really nice low mile (60K) 2002 Avalanche Saturday evening at a local dealer.

***TIME TO BUY STOCK IN ARMOR ALL***

I didn't think I would like it that much but I kinda did. The styling it definatly "different". However once I drove it - I really liked it. It drives and rides really good. Smooth ride for a 4X4. It has a bunch of room in the back seat. The bed is small but I have a trailer for my motorcycles and I can fit all my gas cans, gear and camping stuff in the bed no problem. I also like the lockable, water proof cover system it has. The 5.3 LSX has decent power/acceleration. I looked up the RPO's and it has (GT4) 3.73 gears and (G80) locking rear diff. Already has a GM installed towing hitch and trailer light/brake hook up as well.

I did a pre approved loan app with my credit union (Navy Federal) this morning on line. After lunch I went over to the bank pcked up the check, headed over to the dealer and drove it off the lot. Now its been 1995 since I finaced a car... I don't remember it being this easy before... BTW I paid $10,500 out the door.

I've already found out that 285/75's will fit on the stock lift and that CORSA makes 2 different exhaust systems for it.... With that knowlege I see no reason to keep it stock.

I'll take some pics tomorrow after work.
