My new VISE

Subject: My new VISE
by rklessdriver on 2011/4/27 1:48:20

Now I know your thinking.... Drinking, fast cars and loose women... those are all cool vise's to have.

Sadly all I just have to show you is my new (OLD) bench vise. Yep the kind you clamp shit in.

Now I went to the big box stores last weekend to price out a vise for my garage. What I found was a bunch of CHINA made crap that was probally cast from melted down dog turds... and still cost over $100.00 at that.

Yes I only have a humble 2 car residential garage in the suburbs, but I just can't buy that trash. I've got too many years working in my dads shop using his 1950's Reed MFG bench vise.

So went to ebay and took my chances to find a used ancient artifact of the USA's once great industrial capability.

What I bought is a 6" Parker vise made in Meridian, CT - probally sometime between the 1930's to 1950's.

6" jaws are a little big for a home garage, but it'll do any job I need it to. I'll probally have to get some new jaws for it and clean it up a bit but as long as the sellers description and pics are what I recieve in the mail, I'll be pleased. BTW $47.25 shipped to my door.

Now I got to get some 1/2" plate steel and tubing so I can make a stand for it.
