Not sure, but I think it's pretty humid in PA, right? If that is the case, I think central heat and A/C would be a good choice. My shop (wood shop) gets real hot during the summer, even with walk-in and overhead doors open....and we are in a low humidity area. I finally added a window A/C unit. My shop is 24 x 30 and the 18,000 btu A/C does a reasonable job of taking the bite off. It won't take it down to 60 degrees, but will do upper 70s and that makes it bearable.

I'm also not too big on anything with an open flame with the possibilities of gasoline fumes. Particularly if those flames are close to the floor. Gas fumes are heavier than air and will accumulate on the low areas. Open flame down there and the garage becomes a bomb.

In my shop I have an electric furnace that sits in the attic area. No open flame and 10' high.
