DIE Bodyshop DIE

Subject: DIE Bodyshop DIE
by BillH on 2013/10/1 23:58:32

Since I have over 400 hours in the bodywork, 95% of it correcting bodyshop work, what's another 80 hours just to install the headlight buckets???

It's unbelievable how much sloppy workmanship was done on this car AND the amount of body putty that was used to cover it up. But there's a whole lot of C2's out there like this.

The car won't get painted until next spring. I decided to throw the doors on and found more screw-ups and body putty that needs to be removed.

Anyway, the nose section was replaced, the part that has the headlight buckets in it and about a foot of the top of the fenders.

First, this piece was made by North American Rockwell and measuring from the hood to the outer point of the nose where the buckets fit, it's 1/4 inch off side to side, the idiots.
So, what did the bodyshop do? Fix it, of course not, they ground out the 12 bucket mounting holes so large that the mounting bolts will pass right thru or just clamp on 1/4 of their integrated washer.

4 steel mounting plates, 3 holes each, all had to be welded smaller then reground. Plus since the glass is off the correct measurement, the holes will have to be welded again once the bolts are in the correct place and marked.

This takes a long time because it takes 20 minutes to put the buckets in.
