On the back side put 1 or 2 layers of glass mat. Since this repair was horizontal, the mat was applied and covered with 2 inch masking tape to keep it in place. Almost guaranteed to fall off while curing if you don't use the tape.

Then start layering up precut layers of mat. The first should be less than 1/4 in. wide, second 1/2, thirs 1 1/2 and last, 2 in.

The people on the other forums who say to leave a depression for body filler are incorrect. This will result in a weak repair.

The fiberglass in the pic is at least 1/16th higher than the body skin.
