The roof snaps and pops on my 2006 Corvette

Subject: The roof snaps and pops on my 2006 Corvette
by nbergma on 2013/9/5 3:27:16

I bought a one-previous-owner 2006 Corvette in July 2013. Since the day I purchased the car I have noticed that when I got over bumps, when I am on uneven ground or pavement, sometimes even when accelerating from a stop or going around corners my roof makes snapping and popping noises. I loosened the latches that secure the roof and reseated the roof and re-secured the latches but the roof still does the same thing.

I came across some information that GM had issued a couple of recalls for the roof panels of 2005-2007 Corvettes because the adhesive that secures the panel to the panel frame was defective or ineffectively applied. The fix in the original recall in 2006 was to inject some foam-type adhesive under the roof panel. Apparently that didn't resolve the problem because GM later issued a revised recall where they would install a completely new roof on vehicles that were still experiencing the problem.

According to the service records that my local dealership, Hedrick's Chevrolet here in Fresno, California, was able to obtain from the two dealerships that the original owner took the car to, both of the recalls were applied to my Corvette, yet I'm definitely still hearing a lot of the snapping and popping noises that the recall notice says is a symptom of the poor adhesion problem.

Does anyone else with a C6 hear the same kinds of sounds from your roof? Maybe this is just a normal thing that I need to get used to? Or is there another recall that I'm not aware of that I need to check into for the same problem?

Maybe I'm worried over nothing. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
