C6 Ownership - First Observations

Subject: C6 Ownership - First Observations
by bogus on 2017/7/16 21:32:18

I have now owned my C6 for just over three months. This is my ownership report:

1. Overall, the car is an absolute winner. So damned well put together. Worlds ahead of the C4.

2. The Borla sounds bad as hell, but the drone at 1500 RPM is deafening. Borla has a resonator that is supposed to kill it off.

3. Problems... only little things... the auto up/down feature of the window when the doors open sometimes get screwed up and the glass doesn't go where it should. When doing the aftermarket stereo, the first interface didn't work at all, I don't blame the car, but the brand - CRUX. Got the PAC interface and it rocks!

4. Driving... it rides wonderfully, steers, brakes, does it all without fuss. The interior is comfortable and once the drone is gone, will be pleasantly quiet.

5. Comparing this to the C4 is not fair... the C4 was a huge improvement for the Corvette over the C3, and the C5 was another leap forward. Such a leap that the C6 was a reskin and a fine tuning. The structure is so much stronger, the C6 hits a bump and the car takes it, the C4 hits a bump and the car shimmies and shakes all over. Additionally, maintenance is much easier... C5s are running around with 200k miles and still on their original wheel bearings. The C4 gets expensive at about 85k miles, and the early C4s (pre-1991) are worse - the valve seal and head gasket issues of the L98; the weakness of the 700R4... on top of the normal wear items: bearings, shocks, brakes, u-joints, and clutch (manuals).

Finally, since the car is a low miles car that is 11 years old, I am going to do a maintenance cycle on it very soon. The next oil change is due soon - Sept or Oct at this rate. I will then do a brake fluid flush, brake pads, trans and diff oils, plus a fuel filter.

In short, I am very happy with the car. It runs great and hasn't skipped a beat. To anyone looking for a Corvette, the C6 is a great value to performance ratio available. Period.
