Well, unfortunately I didn't get a "confident" answer to the question. However, I'm betting it is very similar to the way Al Knoch is building them, which I was fortunate enough to witness. Here is his top guy working:

At this point, the top panel is only attached to the sides, by stitching. The rear window surround panel is attached to the structure at the top by a row of staples.

He then overlaps the top and staples it as well.

Then he attaches the bead strip - which is "flat" at first. It is stapled, through the two layers of top fabric and into the structure.

Once its attached, he folds it in half. The bead strip appeared to have some type of metal core, so it will hold its shape once folded over.

He then lightly hammers it flat and attaches the end decorations.

He did use adhesive to attach the side panels to part of the structure.

Like I said, I don't know if this is exactly the way yours is put together, but it should give some ideas. Hope it helps.
