It get boring real quick just looking theu the windshield. You have no idea what the driver is doing.
When the camera shows the driver, steering wheel (or part of the wheel), shifter, shift lights, you get a much better idea of what's going on.

Example, if the driver goes into a corner a little hot, you can see the corrections on the steering wheel. Even in normal cornering, does he have to saw at the wheel? Or is the steering input smooth and light (shows something of how the car is handling)?

But at least, in-car does give you some sensation of the speed. Believe me, it looks way, way faster when you're actually in the car.
