Subject: Re: C4 to C5 brakes like em? by Slalom4me on 2008/4/17 16:49:53 I use the Electro-Dynamics adapters and C5 front calipers. For my purposes, the change was a cost-effective upgrade from the 12" brakes that were OEM on the car. At the time, new calipers were well under $100/ea (exc hardware). The big cost lay in the E-D brackets at a time when there were no alternatives - still, I have no regrets about the E-D brackets. The bigger outlay was for wheels (& tires) that would fit over the larger brakes. I've replaced the calipers once with new C5 ones for about $200 and I have a set of little-used take-offs on hand for the next time. Rotors come from NAPA for $40-50 CDN. They are or used to be available from RockAuto for less but the shipping adds up for me. The reports about the regular C6 caliper appear to indicate that it is nearly if not a direct replacement for my C5's and a worthwhile improvement the next time I need calipers. What is your intended application - road race/autoX is fairly broad when considering braking needs. Also, what sort of budget is there for initial outlay and then for on-going maintenance? . |
