Its hard to say exactly where my city is... but my house is located in a really small little town about 30 miles east of Washington DC right on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. The town has a lot of history and was a product of the turn of the century (1900) Washington DC people looking for a place to get away from the city. They ran a train line to Chesapeake Beach and built hotels and gambling on the water front. After the advent of the automobile and a bridge linking western shore of MD to the eastern shore people could easily travel to the Ocean shore instead of the bay. Therefore the town soon was forgotten and wasn't until the past ten years or so, that is has mad a little comeback. We still have a hotel and slot machines but it's the fishing, crabbing and boating that make this area beautiful. I live a few blocks from the Chesapeake and love being so close.

The Baltimore / Washington / Annapolis Metropolitan areas have really grown into one large city as the three have sprawled to eachother's boundries. I grew up in the center of the triangle and lived here my whole life except for 14 years in a little town in South Carolina.

Pros and Cons of Washington Metro Area

Pros

* Many things to see and do...
* A fairly strong job market even in today's economy
* housing market slow but not dead
* Federal Government keeps people employed
* 20 minutes and you are away from the city and in some of the most beautiful rural areas in Maryland and Virginia
* The Chesapeake Bay
* Milder winters than up north

Cons

* Too many things to see and do
* If you don't have a security clearance job market is tough
* Hot and humid in the summer
* Slush and ice in the winter
* At least an hour long commute can be expected in most areas but perhaps even longer

Overall I love where I live but am only staying to be around my parents and the job market right now. I plan to move south again in the future, just don't know when. I loved Aiken, SC when we lived there. No regrets at all. However, I think we will be looking in the Charleston, Savannah or Jacksonville areas in the future.
