If one was thinking of buying and setting up a slot car track in their basement, how long a track is minimal? 25' 50' 75'

I see track packages anywhere from $500 to $1700 and higher

The easy answer is ... as much as you can afford.

What scale are you considering? HO, 1:32, 1:24?

My table is about 4' by 13'.
The 1:32 oval is roughly 25ft in track length, and that isn't much. If I were going to set up a road course, I don't think I would consider anything less than about 40ft.
The HO course is also roughly 25ft, and I would consider it average size for a 4-lane home setup. If I were doing a 2-lane, I would certainly go longer.
