Subject: Wednesday Chat 01.19.11 by Matatk on 2011/1/19 12:38:45 Good Morning CGs! Tommy is at the hospital this morning with his wife for a prescheduled foot surgery. Good luck with the surgery, Tommy! Hope everything is smooth sailing. I don't normally watch Frontline on PBS, but I got hooked last night on a couple interesting articles. The first was about the war on terrorism/homeland security. They talked about the uncounted billions spent on new technology, yet the technology hasn't worked in some recent high profile cases (Christmas Day underwear bomber, Times Square bomber, etc). I think the piece made some good arguments, but really glanced over a lot that the technology has done. Oh well. The piece that really surprised me was the next piece about airlines. It seems that the big boys have more recently been outsourcing all of their plane repairs to MROs (maintenance repair and overhaul). Apparently many of these are in different countries and have lowly-educated "mechanics" who are not faa certified doing the repairs. Makes you feel safe, huh? All to save a few bucks....has me worried a bit. Something you should look into, Gurus. Hope everyone has a great day! Matthew |
