There hasn't been a single country to have such economic control since the British Empire prior to WWII. At that time, the British Pound was worth in the neighbourhood of $4 to $5 USD. And that was prewar dollars. I would estimate that with all the various games one can play with indexes and such, that a 1938 British Pound would be worth close to $20.00 USD today. The Chinese are poised to be the next epic power, but their finances are still artifically controlled, so until that changes, it will be a while. And their military isn't up to ours in quality, just quantity. |
