As everyone has said Matt those are called round bales.

Now Alfalfa is expensive and has to be planted every yr. so those are good for dairy cows. Beef cows don't care and they could be made up of timothy or fescue. Now if one owns a large herd of horsed you could feed round bales also as that would be efficient and horses like timothy.
