A day in the life of Tommy T-Bone.

Sue wiped out a bunch of files and programs on her computer Monday when she hit Refresh without reading what the consequences of such a move on her Windows 8 computer might be. The WD Passport backup fell victim to the move apparently and all stored files were erased or the unit was corrupted as it showed no files. I toubleshot and then disconnected the unit and she brought it to a retailer that had success in retrieving lost date in the past. They retrieved some files and stored them in a folder. I told her I don't know Windows 8, I don't know Quickbooks and she should get somebody that understands them to deal with the issue. I'm not a geek. I just use a computer. She uses QuickBooks Pro so she called Intuit to see if they could retrieve any data from the saved files. Here's where the fun begins. She doesn't know what tech support is talking about so she hands me the phone and says you can understand what they're talking about better than me. This begins a marathon session that has me on the phone for 3 straight hours Wed night with a scheduled callback the Thursday. Yesterday I end up on the phone for another 3 1/2 hours as they try to get the data recovered and and an updated version of Quickbooks installed and operational. This leads to folders being uploaded and sent to Intuit's data recovery service which will call me back in 3 to 5 business days with their findings. This stuff gives me a headache plus exposure to stresses I tried like hell to avoid. She's always overextended and loves living in a pressure cooker while I on the other hand like to be left the f@(% alone and tend to my $#!+. Because she has two things scheduled at the same time I get to go sit at a festival tomorrow and watch the booth from 09:00 to 12:00. I hate doing retail and hate dealing with customers and talking about plants, a subject I have a limited knowledge of. Of course if I don't help her then I'm the bad guy. Meanwhile I've been trying to kick the crud, catch up on my stuff which is weeks behind and try to sneak in a little me time all while hating to hear the ring of the phone. I have an interesting tax story too but I've already spouted off enough for one day. Maybe enough for a couple of days. My dreams of retirement were just that, dreams. I envisioned time for books, movies, driving around and staring off into the heavens. Ha! ..... Ha-ha! ....... Ahhhh HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA. There coming to take me away ha-ha. There coming to take me away ho-ho
