I got a phone call from our high school AD asking me if I was available to come to the finals of the High Plains league basketball tournament next Saturday the 20th. He said that the league was going to honor me with their lifetime achievement award for my 44 years of service. I told the HS AD, at the beginning of the school year, that I would be retiring from running the clocks for football and basketball at the end of this year, it was time for someone else to take over. I never anticipated this honor from the league. I am overwhelmed with emotion right now, and not sure I am worthy of the honor. I figured the school would take a moment to say something at one of our home games, but, I never anticipated this League honor. My co-worker and I always laughed and joked about how we were the "All League" scorebook/score clock crew...this brings those jokes to reality. |
