It's a spiritual thing.

We don't HAVE stuff - STUFF has US. We think we need stuff to improve our 'lot'. Problem is, the improvement has to come from withIN, not withOUT. Getting 'stuff' with your money is just conversion of what's already yours.

Comes down to attention and admiration from others.

Just like your vette. If it's perfectly tuned, it can't be any better tuned. That's what makes it special. I don't think there's too much special about a new one. But an old one? One that's in perfect condition? Without bunches of 'stuff' added on? Can't beat it.

Just like your wife. Facelift, plastic boobs from the doc, she's the same person she was the day before. Good (or bad), added-on 'stuff' don't change it.
