After following his posts on many forums (Blockman claims to participate in over 20), it is clear he is vicious. He does not support the CF financially, but markets his ability via bashing and attempting to remove credibility of anyone that gets involved with a small block chevy. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I would rather impress a potential customer with professionalism. I love his tangents about blueprinting blocks. Anyone who has ever measured a seasoned GM core knows you cannot "blueprint" them. There simply is not enough metal to do so. Example: If you attempted to bore all cylinders exactly on a 4 inch centerline, there is a good chance that you will hit a water jacket by the time you are 1/2 way through with the 3rd cylinder boring. Core shift is a huge problem. I enjoy reading about how he blueprints the cam tunnel as it relates to the main bearing bores. Anyone ever do this, or even hear of this? To do this properly, the cam bore must be machined oversize to straighten it, then all lifter bores re-machined (after installing new liners. After all this is done, you now need a custom camshaft that I think is dimensionally the same as a big block cam. Anyhow, it is not only uncommon to "blueprint" a factory production block, it almost never, ever happens due to some level of core shift. If it did, no one would spend the money, they would upgrade to a quality aftermarket block, and then fully machine it. Blockman is full of shit, and people that don't know the reality, believe what he spews because it is cool technical shit they don't understand. Gm does a horrible job machining them, and they last for hundreds of thousands of miles. Any good machinist will make it 10x better than GM by making everything as close to perfect as possible. I won't argue with him, or even acknowledge him. Unlike him, I have work to do, and a family to feed, and don't have 20 hours a day to be the forum police and protect the world from poor machinists. |
