New car mfgs. interests are different from consumers. As long as the engine gets thru the warrenty period with the fewest warrenty expenses, they're happy. Will today's engines do this at 7,500? Sure. If you're the type that keeps vechiles long term, like me, is a 5k or less change interval a good idea? IMO, it is. I've never had a motor that had an oil related failure. I also do all the other maintainence on my schedule (frequently). Can't see why anyone would run dino unless they're just cheap. Miles is miles, No, you're correct. Short trips definately increase sludge especially with dino. When you get your oil to 180-185, it starts to burn off the contaminants. It doesn't elminate them but does burn off a decent portion. The other contributing factor to sludge on short trips is the humidity. When the trip is short enough, there's no residual heat in the motor to dry up moisture. Just look at some of the oil caps and you'll see light brown crap. That's oil and moisture mixed. |
