Very rare in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Maybe on the really big jobs or McCormick Place where you could hide a couple bums. I had 35 years on the job and if you couldn't produce, you were gone after one day, no seniority either and you have a reputation to protect. Unlike public (govt.) sector jobs, if you couldn't compete you went bankrupt. The foreman I replaced, you were gone at 9:00AM the same day, no quarter was given. (He couldn't show his face at the union hall)
