Sorry to say but that sounds like too many chiefs and not enough indians. (Not meant to offend indians). As for the case of people that bust their ass and get no appreciation, there is always job hunting or even paying a head hunter to locate a better paying position. It always feels good to hand an obuser a 2 week notice.
In past generations the new immigrants often bore the labor intensive positions. The Chinese, Irish, Italians, Mexicans and others plus the ignorant (uneducated) native born all played roles in the buiding of America.
It was not uncommon that people actually tried to please other people. Today it's more about pleasing oneself. What's in it for me? Americans have high expectations. The reality is those expectations can only be fulfilled with hard work and a good education. Unless of course Mommy and Daddy, Grandma and Grampa take pity on them (which they often do). Poor babies ....
