Kinda tense, but Mom and Dad are feeling good about this. Kev, the miracle of birth is really impressive. What happens is the heart has a "bypass" tube that sends oxygenated blood from Mom into the body rather than pumping into the lungs first. Once the baby is out, this bypass starts to dissolve as the lungs are now functioning. The previous generation called this "blue baby" as the heart went through transition. In Nolan's case the hosp staff identified the blue nose and lips then started diagnostics immediately. They added O2 to keep him oxygenated, and a "drug" that keeps this bypass tube from dissolving. For now we're finding distractions..... It is SF and the people are most interesting. |
