Re: Don't open this if you get your feelings hurt - Why does everyone say its OK to be gay?[PR&C]

I have had the sexual harrassment classes... they are a joke... but the idea is simple, if we share this pointless drivel with you, we are no longer liable for you acting like an ass.

Essentially, you have been warned.

I would be surprised if any gay related functions were to become manditory. I would be shocked.

I was reading the title... "Why does everyone say it is OK to be gay?" To me, this automatically implies that gay is wrong in some way. It is just different.

Unlike other genetic differences, it isn't deadly. Someone being gay doesn't mean they are ax murderers. But there are genes that indicate predisposition to being socio- and psychopaths. Don't forget sexual sadists.

I grew up in Delaware. It is coastal, Mid-Atlantic, but it is rural... and can be socially conservative. But gays were never really picked on in DE, same with racial issues. By the time I grew into school age (1971), schools were integrated. Is started at a private school, but switched over to public in 3rd grade, had friends who were black and Hispanic. My family never taught that being different was bad, so I accepted all. Short/tall, skinny/fat, young/old, gay/straight.

One of my wife's friends is gay. He is a 2nd grade teacher at the local district and has been for eons. He is one of the kindest, gentlest, compassionate, most patient people I have ever met. If would have loved to have had him as a teacher, and if I had a child that age, I would want him or her in his class in an instant.

When I was in HS, the head of the English Dept was gay. I knew him in school and out of school as a friend. He was always so very nice to me and everyone I know always got along well with him. So much so, when I graduated HS, in my senior picture, Gene loaned me a tie! That was Oct, so by May, I actually got a real suit for all the parties and such. I will always remember Gene for his kindness and caring. He didn't have to bring an extra tie that day - just for me.

So perhaps my world was more tolerant to start with. My exposures more open and less judgmental. All I know is this: I don't hate based on personal things - gender, race, religion, sexual bias.

I don't really hate much, I actually have more problems with stupid people than anything else. I hate hate. I despise the current political climate and all of the hate and venom being spewed about. It takes away from the discussion of issues and turns it into a shouting match.

I mean, I can call the next guy an ignorant mother fucker, but what have I succeeded at doing?

When I discuss politics, I keep my personal feelings of the candidate out of the equation, unless character is the key.

For example, the former Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, IS a scumbag crook. But that is also empirical data. Calling Obama a scumbag crook might be true, but since there isn't any findings in a court of law, then the name cannot be used.

I also hate politically motivated spam email. Most of the time, they are pandering to some lowest common denominator of fear and patriotism to get a lie across. One shows a soldier that was injured in Iraq with some bullshit text on how his pay was going to be cut by that unamerican bastard Obama. That kids picture has been perverted because of some BI-PARTISAN Senate subcommittee went digging into the budget to see where they could save some $$ and found that stateside US servicemen could survive without a pay raise. At the same time, this data was strictly research and wasn't even applied to the budget!!! Even closed door discussions become fodder for more lies!

So I will warn you all now, if I get a piece of bullshit email like that from ANYONE, I will light you up with the validation that it's bullshit. Be it Snopes or any other urban legend type site or whatever research it takes to validate it's a lie.
